Capturing a sense of expansiveness and freedom, responding viscerally to the landscape through colour
The recurring themes in my landscapes are expansiveness, emotion and freedom. I feel that they are reflective of my inner states and sometimes the human condition in general. They represent memories of places I’ve lived or been, the feeling of distance and the transience of time. I like to capture a sense of movement, drama and immediacy. I use colour and the paint application to express vibrancy and freshness. I like to use traditional landscape constructs such as perspective in an unconventional way.
