The Voyage Renewed

$2500

We are the most powerful creators of reality. Individualism within spirituality is a personal ownership of one’s beliefs that is centred on what’s within. For myself, it’s a sense of interconnectedness with the rest of humanity, and with nature. A belief in that there is something greater than myself. I’m a strong believer in Toitu te Whenua – let the permanence of the land remain intact. It is my code with mother nature as she is the ultimate reality. She provides the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food that we eat. This work is to convey our relationship to nature with the spirituality of the eel and acknowledge the miracles and mysteries of nature’s genetic memory. To the Dutch, eel (palingen) is a delicacy, and to the Japanese, eel (unagi) is a staple of the Japanese diet. To Māori, eel (tuna) are not only just a food source but are also held with a certain reverence, eels are an important Taonga (cultural treasure) and are often being depicted as mythical beings or guardians. Within my work, I connect each of these three cultures through eels, where each eel bares the markings of its culture as it continues its migratory journey.

We must be protective of new life, new beginnings for our future generations.
