Carnival is a celebration of the exploration of colour, modernism, decoration and the syntax of shapes. My work process is intrinsic to the end product, hundreds of sketches are made in an un-calculated, free-flowing way – each one informing the next – and are edited down to a select few as a starting point for paintings to be born.

I have a love of words, design and symbology, and a commitment to allowing the viewer to not look too far beyond the foundational use of colour, potentially the most important component of art-making.

As one of my heroes Lee Krasner is quoted to say: “Colour for me is a very mysterious thing. I insist on letting it go the way it’s going to go. The result can be an exuberantly playful and a wild thing moving through life to its own rhythm”.
