Tarapuruhi Bushy Park is my happy place. As I stand still with pencil and notebook and really look at the seemingly chaotic ngahere, I marvel at its beauty and intricacy, the ever-changing light filtering through the foliage, and the quietness punctuated with birdsong and the sound of breeze in the treetops. No surface is bare. There is a deeply timeless feeling in the presence of living beings many hundreds of years old. A sadness that it takes so much effort to preserve such precious forest and hope that we can do better in restoring our unique treescapes.
Bonsai (For Display Only): I have enjoyed growing bonsai trees for many years. They have taught me about plant propagation. Kowhai are some of the few NZ native trees which can be kept as bonsais.
