Composite citizen

$1500

Can we tell each other from one’s appearance to one’s genealogy? My work focuses on the nature of indigeneity. It has layers of meaning that explore the relationship between the land, fauna and people. Rawiiri identifies himself as Māori, yet his lineage crosses cultures. He has Scottish (Wallace Clan) and Chinese. This type of genetic makeup is not unusual amongst many New Zealanders and the fact that Rawiiri chooses to identify himself as Māori. Cross pollination is extensively manifesting globally. With Māori, their bloodline is being diluted by intermarriage with different cultures. Now there is a resurgence within Māori youth guiding them to stand strong and bond with their culture. We are all descendants, as global migration is expanding new generations are formed, I evolve, I am unique, I am a composite citizen in this world…I will make my stance.

Pūkeke be determined, obstinate, dogged, persistent, steadfast, strongminded, tenacious, unyielding.
