Hawke’s Bay artist Lisa Feyen presents an exhibition of new work that explores the language, spirituality and interconnected nature of trees.
Far more than beautiful features of the landscape, trees are quiet guardians of the natural world, and our future is firmly laced into their roots and branches.
The language of trees is mysterious, yet their presence is fundamental to life on earth. Through intricate symbiotic relationships, they sustain thriving ecosystems, provide the air we breathe, and support one another through hidden networks of roots and mycelium. They reach towards the light, continually adapting to their environment while offering food, shelter and protection not only to each other, but countless other species.
The works in this exhibition grew from a seed. The initial ideas emerged through research into the hidden world of our quiet co-inhabitants, followed by a material exploration combining printmaking with blackwork stitch and drawing.
The resulting pieces evolved with time, observation and reflection, much like a tree is nurtured by sunlight, water and patience. Together, they invite the viewer to reflect on the unseen conversations, rhythms, and relationships that bind trees to one another and ultimately, to ourselves..
